Agronomic Practices in Lemon Balm Production under Temperate Climate Conditions: Raw Material Yield and Active Substances Content

The cultivation of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) is necessary for pharmaceutical and cosmetic production. aim our work was to investigate the effect plant density as well harvesting method on yield quality characteristics M. officinalis, which used a source polyphenols essential oil in pharmaceutical, food, industries. field experiment carried out two growing seasons (2019 2020). set up 2-factor experiment; factors studied were spacing (30 × 30 cm or 40 cm) (single double harvesting). herb cut twice (in mid-July early September) once depending combination. air-dried leaves subjected laboratory tests determine oil, total tannin, flavonoid contents. individual years study depended more than density. content 0.25–0.38% Considering yields fresh leaves, tannin contents, higher (40 better agronomic option lower cm). Harvesting proved be efficient terms quantity single harvest.
